10 ppm means approximately 10 parts of sulfur per one million parts of fuel by mass.
It is also approximately equal to:
10 mg/kg = 0.001 wt% sulfur
This is a very low sulfur concentration. It is therefore important to distinguish a genuine 10 ppm specification from general terms such as “low sulfur” or “ultra-low sulfur.”
For example, the U.S. Energy Information Administration defines ultra-low-sulfur diesel as diesel containing a maximum of 15 ppm sulfur.
A product specifically offered as 10 ppm diesel should therefore be supported by a specification or COA showing the applicable sulfur limit and the test method used.
Why Does Sulfur Content Matter?
